I tended to spend a lot of time rummaging through my mom’s house in search of old, obsolete 2000’s era tech. One thing that I’ve come to notice is that a lot of people will definitely give you strange looks for carrying a 2004 Motorola Razr phone in the grand years of the 2020s. Look, I get it. It’s easy to look at somewhat lowlife posers who snap photos with their tech for the ‘gram with “#Y2K” and feel a little annoyed. Then again, a lot of people feel that they are just yearning for simpler times. Except we forget the fact that they weren’t so simple. Sure, many aspects of the late 90s and 2000s certainly FEEL cozy and simple. However, I feel that this is purely because many people were just younger during these times. Think about it: how simple was it to use and wait for dial-up internet? How fun was it to have your parents crash out at you for accidentally pressing that internet button on your Razr? Like I said, a lot of people were just younger and may not have been paying too much attention to the stuff going on around them at that time. Personally, I was too focused on what time Phineas and Ferb was gonna come on. I’ll say it again: the people are yearning for simplicity! Especially today when computers can artificially generate their own master’s degrees and become your personal licensed therapist. Or when America decides to go to war with another nation at 3 in the morning while half of the nation is asleep. By now, you may be wondering where I stand on this topic, if I even have a stance, or where the hell this is going in the first place. To not answer any of your questions, I’ll leave you all with such thought-provoking questions of my own: Why do people truly yearn for simplicity in such an automated and streamlined world? Have we seriously gone too far?
